Artist Statement

My medium of choice is acrylic, but increasingly I am incorporating a variety of media, and most recently the addition of collage. My works combine varying levels of realism, with abstraction in format.

Although the majority of my work is architectural, these are quite technical in nature. I very much enjoy creating semi-abstracted florals, and abstraction as a form of balance in my practice.  These pieces provide me with greater opportunity for spontaneity, and help me to remain loose in my application.  It’s pure magic to explore the “what if’s”.

No matter the subject, it is always my hope that the viewer will sense joy, wonder, and perhaps a bit of romantic nostalgia when viewing my art.

“My creative spirit is drawn to everyday life. I see “extraordinary” within urban settings that most might dismiss as ordinary.”

I have always loved architecture. Specifically homes, but really, structures of any variety. Shapes are my initial interest, along with composition. The geometric shapes found within structures, and shadows cast, are the beginning of the creative process.  When complimented with quirky neighbourhoods, alleyways, nooks and crannies,… this is when the stories they conjure, ignite my creative fire!

I can’t help but feel that structures are to me, what the human shape is to a figurative painter.

”My creative spirit is drawn to everyday life. I see extraordinary, within urban settings that most might dismiss as ordinary”
